(both weapons are nearly perfect, no need for smithing!) a long glaive + first "basic" staff is a good/best combination. you have to change the sliders (long/short) till you are content.

Haven't used the Long Glaive yet but I think I'll like it for the flexibility of using as a lance one handed with a shield in the other. I've been using the Glaive like that and got lucky in a few battles charging far ahead of my line with my shield raised against projectiles hunting the enemy commander and disrupting their formation.

The Long Glaive tends to one shot troops better than the Rhomphalia and it has the ability to thrust which the Rhomphalia can't. Typically you can get a few extra points in cut damage and swing speed by making the glaive head and shaft as short as possible. It is more likely to appear in towns with higher prosperity. The cost of the Glaive usually ranges from ~23-27k. However, if you are in the early stages of the game, you may have to wait for the prosperity of the town to rise, which takes time. Tournaments with more named characters in them will give better rewards. That said I’ve never seen a glaive in a tournament reward. Best bet is to just sell the fancy horses from the tournaments and buy a glaive with that money.
