Mechanically, the 30AS is a 336 with a different labeling stamp. I think (not sure) that the 30AS was only available in 30-30.Yeah, $250.00 is a little low. The Glenfield Model 30A is not the Marlin Model 336, but in another sense, it is. The main difference is that the Glenfield has a walnut stained hardwood stock (usually birch) whereas the Marlin as a walnut stock. Marlin has a ramp front sight, the Glenfield uses a front sight dovetailed into the barrel. The Marlins have a little nicer rear sight. I know they marked the barrels “AS”starting in 1988 when the safety was added but I am not sure exactly when the roll mark on the barrel went back to “A”.
