You're correct on the difference between using nourishings and flat arcane gems for the wheel. When tricked, you get +0.50 additional arcane scaling and 200% more arcane damage at the cost of losing 30% physical damage (not like it matters terribly that much if you only have the minimum str requirement anyway).
