Our vision is to transform the National Museum of Asian Art into a space where a wide range of visitors can come together to celebrate, learn about, and interact with Asian art and cultures, including their intersection with America. In our second century, we’re becoming a space to convene, learn, reflect, and forge connections through art.
It was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, following decades of efforts to promote and highlight the contributions of African Americans. To date, the Museum has collected more than 40,000 artifacts. The Museum opened to the public on September 24, 2016, as the 19th museum of the Smithsonian Institution.Each of the museum’s three floors is accessible by elevator and stairs. The museum is adjacent to the blue, orange, and silver lines at Smithsonian Metro station; street parking is available off Independence Avenue.
